Shell Border Dust Cloth

Super Simple, Super Easy!

I dont know about you guys but dust really bothers me, to see it irritates me and not to mention what it does to my allergies! The worst thing is when you dust and it just flies everywhre….UGH! So one day when i was cleaning and i had this half made project that i started and honestly had no intention of finishing (dont give me grief we all have those!) So i picked it up and used it to dust and to my surprise it was awesome! So i decided to share the love and not only does this make a fantastic dust cloth, it is super simple to make and i am excited for this! This pattern is really great for beginners because you do three different stiches but you repeat them so it gives you practice and its a dust cloth so there is no need for it to be pretty other than the fact that who doesnt like pretty things!!I used Caron Simply Soft and an H hook. I find that the Caron Simply Soft yarn picks up the dust and holds it so you dont get as much of the dust flying all over, but you could literally probably use any yarn. I did not do a gage for this pattern becasue i didnt think there was much of a use for one.
Pattern :

Measures about 7 in x 8.5 inTo get these measurements use a size H hook and Caron simply soft yarn(or equivalent)

Pattern

Using US 9 needle cast on 84 stitches Join in the round and place your stitch marker

RND 1-20: *K1,P1*

The brim should be about 3.5 in

RND 21-60: *P3,K1*I decrease using the magic loop method, so in order to get my work onto a larger cable, I knit it onto the cable the round before I start my decrease. For this pattern I worked round 60, knitting onto a longer cable

Once you have it on your longer cable you will separate the sides so that the side you will work first has 40 stitches and the side you will work second will have 44 stiches (this is so that when you decrease the number of stitches on each side will come out evenly)

To decrease using DPNs divide your stitches across 3 needles with 28 stitches on each needle and follow the pattern as normal. When you get to the last row of decreases with 7 stiches on each needle, it may make it easier to switch to using just 2 DPNs instead of 3.
RND 61: *(P2TG), P1, K1* (63)
RND 62: * (P2TG), K1* (42)
RND 63: *(P2TG)* (21)
RND 64: (P2TG) X5, P1, (P2TG) X5 (10)
RND 64 is where you will notice the difference in how you split up the sections when starting the magic loop method. You should have an extra stich on the second side so you will purl the first stitch and then purl 2 together 5 times after that finishing up the decreases

Cut yarn leaving a tail long enough to pull through your remaining stitches. Using your yarn needle weave your tail through your remaining stitches so that when you pull the tail it will close the hole on the top. After the hole is closed pull the yarn through the center to the inside and then turn the hat inside out. Knot the hat at the top making it small since this hat is intended to be reversible. Then weave in the remaining tails.

Lace Border

2 SC in each knit stitch, so that you have about 164 SC around the hat, and join with a slip stitch. Your number of SC does not have to be 164, but it does need to be divisible by 4, since the pattern is a 4 stitch repeat so 156, 160, 168 would work. If you do not have enough stitches around the work it will make it so the brim of your hat will not stretch and will give it snugger fit

5 DC in the same stitch as you put your slip stich (slip stich does not count as  stitch), skip 1 stitch, SC, skip 1 stich.
The pattern repeat is 5DC in same stich, skip 1 stitch, SC, Skip 1 stitch

Repeat this until the end, if for whatever reason it doesn’t come out even don’t worry you wont be able to tell. If there are to many just skip two and then join it where you started with a slip stitch knot it off and weave in your ends. If you are short 1 stitch just skip, the skip stitch and join it with where you started using a slip stitch, knot it off and weave in your ends

Velvet Plush Pillow

I have recently found Bernat Velvet yarn and I am obsessed! The softness and plushiness of this yarn is spectacular, amazing, and dare I say addicting! Most of the time I don’t buy yarn unless I have a project in mind, but a couple of months ago while yarn shopping during a marvelous sale at Joanns, I saw the velvet yarn and after some intense thinking of having a little extra money to spend on a yarn I did not have anything planned for, I took the plunge, and I bought 2 (it was all that was left)I get home and literally spent way to much time just playing with the yarn because I could not get over how soft the yarn was, it really blew my mind. I sat with this yarn for a couple of months before I figured out what I was going to make, it took a lot of thinking. I only had 2 balls of this yarn, and I wasn’t going to buy more before I worked with it, so after thinking and thinking it suddenly popped into my mind like bam…. make a pillow! So here it is, the fruits of a lot of thinking, and luckily not to much labor!

Supplies Needed
2 Bernat Velvet ( Blush Pink)

Crochet Hook: Size K-10.5-6.50MM

Yarn Needle

Fiber Fill, Poly-Fill, or a Throw Pillow Insert of some kind
Notes

My finished pillow measured 18 x 18
I made my own insert using Fiber Fill, the white mesh material from a bed skirt, and hot glue
If you decide to make your own, I suggest not using hot glue, and either sewing or using a fabric glue or fabric tape.
If you bought some kind of throw pillow insert, checking your gauge and making a sample swatch is super important, to guarantee an appropriate fit
Remember that the size of your pillow will not reflect the size of your finished panel pieces, as when you add the filling it will appear smaller because they will be stretching over the filling.
Tips
When doing your border, if you crochet over your starting tail, and when stitching the panels together you crochet over your ending tail of each panel, you will only have to weave in one end at the end.
Check your gauge!

Abbreviations
St = Stitch

Ch = chain

SC = Single Crochet

MB = Mini Bean Stitch

Gauge

10 st = 3.5 in

5 rows = 2 in

The Mini Bean Stitch
Insert hook in the chain, yarn over the hook and pull through (2 loops on hook), yarn over hook again (3 loops on hook), insert hook back into the same stitch, yarn over hook again and pull through (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.

Chain 1 after each MB stitch, except for your last one, where you will chain 3

I have added a photo tutorial, to assist and will also provide a link to a YouTube tutorial

For your first row, when you are working into your foundation change, you will go into the stitch as you normally would for SC

Mini Bean Stitch Tutorial by Hopeful Honey

1. Insert hook into the side of the stitch from the previous row

2. Yarn over and pull back through (2 loops on hook)

3. Yarn over again, and insert hook back into the same stitch

4. Yarn over and pull back through (4 loops on hook)

5. Yarn over again

6. Pull through all 4 loops

7. Chain 1

The PatternPillow Panel (make 2)
This pattern calls for a stich that I have seen called the Mini Bean Stitch or the Elizabeth Stitch, for this stitch you will need to chain in multiples of 2 plus 4
Chain on the amount of stiches needed to obtain desired length, making sure that it is in multiples of 2 plus 4. (I chained 52 plus 4 for a total of 56)
Each row is done the exact sameRow 1: Beginning in the 4th chain from the hook, * MB, ch1, skip 1 stitch* repeat until 2 stitches are left, skip 1 chain, MB into last chain stitch, ch 3 and turn your work

Row 2: * MB, ch1, skip 1 stitch* repeat until your last stitch, MB into last stitch, ch 3 and turn
Repeat row 2 until you reached your desired length (I completed 50 Rows)Do NOT cut and knot off yet
Border
SC in each along all four sides of the panel, when you get the corners, crochet 4 SC in the same stitch and then continue SC along the sides
Once you have gone around all 4 sides, SC in the stitch you started in and continue SC around all 4 sides. This time when you get the corners where you have your 4 SC in the same hole, find your two center ones and in each of those you will do 2 SC in each of the two middle stitches.
Once you have gone around the edges twice, cut and knot off.Adding a border will make your panels a little sturdier and it will also help when you stitch the two panels together.
Stitching Your Panels
Since each panel is made with the same row repeated, each side of the panel should look identical, so there is no “wrong” or “right” side.
Put your panels together and make sure the sizing is the same for each panel, choose a corner to start and put your hook through the edges of both panels and SC. You will repeat this for three sides
Before completing your 4th side insert your filling and make sure it all fits and is as you desire.
Once you have your filling in continue around your 4th side and once you have reached the end cut your yarn and knot off and weave in your ends.
And there you go, you have now made such a soft beautiful pillow, that would look spectacular in any living room, or on top of any bed, plus it is super comfy!

Cut your yarn leaving a tail long enough to pull through your remaining stiches.
Weave tail in through remaining stiches being careful not to drop any. Once you have your tail pulled through your remaining stiches you should be able to pull the yarn tight and you will see the hole at the top close.

Once the hole is closed pull the yarn tail through the very center though to the inside. Now that your tail is on the inside turn the hat inside out and knot off your yarn and then weave in your remaining ends.

Mens Folded Brim Hat

Who doesn’t love a good warm hat? I know I do!! I don’t know about you guys but my dad and my brother do not like fancy over the top things and to them a simple design is better, and warmth is a necessity! So I made a hat like this for my dad last winter and he loved it and has been asking me for another one, so I decided that while I was making it I might as well post the pattern so that others can enjoy it to! This hat is awesome, the folded brim makes it warmer around the ears, which is really important during those cold months, but it isnt so thick that it is a pain in the bum. I would say this hat is a little on the larger side, and my dad personally has a bit of a smaller head, but it still works for him so it is a very versatile pattern!

The color combinations that you could do with this hat are endless and that is awesome becasue the more you can personalize something the better! I hope that you guys enjoy this pattern and this hat as much as my family!
